You'll submit your pages at the group start, then spend the next weeks critiquing peer stories. Alice will submit her notes near the critique deadline. After critiques are complete, we host a 2-hour group debrief, in which each writer gets 15 minutes of individual time with Alice to dig into feedback, brainstorm next steps, and discuss any writing questions.
Our goal with these events is to help writers become stronger storytellers. That said, each opening pages event we offer also comes with a submission opportunity.

Alice Jerman (she/her) has worked in the publishing industry since 2011 and is currently a senior editor at Requited, a new crossover imprint at Hachette.
She joined Hachette in 2024. Most recently, she worked at Entangled Publishing and HarperTeen, where she edited #1 New York Times bestselling Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros, the #1 New York Times bestselling Realm Breaker trilogy by Victoria Aveyard, and New York Times bestselling The Rose Bargain by Sasha Peyton Smith.
Alice’s editorial taste is firmly in commercial fiction. She is drawn to high concept stories that feature pacey plots and compulsive voices. She loves a strong romantic arc, at any level of spice, especially if there is a lot of yearning and angst. She is particularly passionate about stories featuring queer characters, especially in genre fiction.
Her favorite tropes are forbidden love and friends-to-lovers. Alice is a graduate of New York University, where she majored in English and minored in Creative Writing. She lives in New York City with her partner and a cat named Mr Mayor.
