YA/Adult SFF First Pages Workshop, with Quressa Robinson

November 1st, 2021 - November 25th, 2021

with Brooke McIntyre

Group started

Preparing your work for submission? In this intimate workshop, you'll receive market and editorial feedback on the first 3,750 words (15 pages) of your young adult/adult manuscript from literary agent Quressa Robinson of Nelson Literary Agency, and a small group of writers.

How it works

You'll submit your pages at the group start, then spend the next weeks critiquing peer stories. Quressa Robinson will submit her notes near the critique deadline. After critiques are complete, we will have a debrief call where each writer gets individual time with Quressa to address key feedback themes and brainstorm next steps for their manuscript.

The group workshop format accelerates learning because, not only will you receive feedback on your own work, you will also be able to see and hear Quressa's feedback on the group's stories, which you will have read and critiqued.

Each agent and editor event we offer also comes with a submission opportunity.

Participants should be sure they have at least 1 hour to give for critiquing each person's manuscript (plus reading time). Because this is a group of 7, this means you should have at least 6 hours available for your peers' stories.

Quressa Robinson and Inked Voices are pleased to make a spot available, free of charge, to a writer who identifies as black or indigenous, or a person of color.

About Brooke McIntyre

Quressa Robinson joined the Nelson Literary Agency in 2017 after working at a previous agency and as an editor for five years. She is originally from San Francisco but has been living in New York City for over a decade. As a New York based agent, she is eager to build her MG, YA, and Adult lists. When not curled on her couch reading, she plays video games, enjoys too much, TV–-mostly Sailor Moon and Avatar: The Last Airbender (Fire Nation)--eats delicious things, drinks champagne, hangs out with her very clever partner, and adds another “dramatic” color to her lipstick collection. Quressa is also a member of the 2017-2019 WNDB Walter Grant Committee and holds an MFA in Creative Writing: Fiction from Columbia University. In 2020, she was named a Publisher's Weekly Star Watch finalist. In 2021 she was named an influential gatekeeper in Book and Film Globe’s inaugural Publishing Power 30 list alongside phenoms like Reece Witherspoon, Celeste Ng, and Lisa Lucas.

About Quressa's Critique Style:
I like to ensure that an author’s vision is clearly coming through, so I focus on a micro approach directly on the MS with inline comments paired with a macro-overview of overarching craft issues via an editorial letter or focused comments.
