Tarot as a Writing Tool

It’s okay to laugh at the idea of consulting a Tarot deck to help you get past creative blocks. It’s a little out there. But shaking up your writing process should be fun. How else will you entice yourself back into your story or memoir? To be clear, you do not need to know anything about the Tarot to benefit from this workshop. We’ll be using the cards to do intuitive writing by tapping into your imagination. Each card, with its striking and powerful imagery, is an invitation to go deeper. But don’t take my word for it -- both Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell wrote about the Tarot’s psychological and mythic elements…the very elements that make for powerful storytelling.

We’ll spend the first hour of the workshop exploring how to use the cards as a source of creative inspiration and how Tarot reading techniques can enhance your writing process. We'll go over how to mine the cards’ archetypal imagery and multi-layered symbolism to create more evocative characters, settings, and scenes. In the final thirty minutes, we’ll do Tarot-based writing exercises specifically for your current work-in-progress. No matter what kind of writing you do or where you are in your draft, this workshop is sure to stimulate your imagination and sense of discovery. Handout included.
